TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HAS NEW LOCATION
As part of Tri-CAP’s transfer of services to other agencies, the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program will be handled by CAPIC (Community Action Program Inner-City).
This program offers free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. Trained community volunteers may help with special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled. In addition to free tax return preparation assistance, we also offer free electronic filing (e-filing). Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper – even faster when tax refunds are deposited directly into one’s bank account. All clients will be seen on a walk-in basis.

You may have heard from various sources that Tri-City Community Action Program, Incorporated (Tri-CAP) is facing financial difficulties. However, we want to assure every one of the over 18,000 clients that Tri-CAP serves that – YOUR NEEDS WILL CONTINUE TO BE MET. Fuel Assistance and Head Start services will continue in their same locations with the same telephone numbers, as of this time. We are still looking for homes for the housing assistance, homeless services, HOPWA, and the Pro Bono Legal Project but are hopeful about these, as well. Residents at Kaszanek House and the Single Room Occupancy permanent residence will stay where they are.
The Board of Directors and Tri-CAP staff are working diligently with federal and state officials and others to do our best to ensure that the programs/services at Tri-CAP are maintained in the same general geographical area. All parties – agencies, staff, government funders, et al. – are committed to the goal that there will NOT be a single day of program service interruption and as many current staff as possible are re-hired to continue to operate the programs.
