Program Description
............................................................................................................................................................. The Pro Bono Legal Project (PBLP) provides legal advice, information, advocacy, referral and representation to low income residents seeking assistance with non-fee generating civil law problems related to housing, family law, unemployment, disability, consumer law and other matters. Service provided by professional staff of 3 and panel of 56 volunteer attorneys. The PBLP benefits from collaborations with other community providers and its close proximity to Tri-CAP's other housing and emergency services programs. This proximity enables the PBLP to provide easy linkages to supportive services which help clients stabilize their individual legal, financial, housing and health. The PBLP in cooperation with Malden District Court offers a Lawyer for the Day (LFTD) program every Thursday for the summary process eviction session. The LFTD program is staffed by Tri-CAP staff attorneys and volunteer attorneys. The LFTD offers advice and information, not representation, to low-income pro se tenants and landlords. This may involve filing out pro se court forms, referring applicants to appropriate resources, or explaining court procedure. The LFTD numerous generic pro se motions and other court forms available. PBLP staff also provides on-site intakes at the Medford Senior Center 10:00 am - 12:00 noon on the second Wednesday of each month, by appointment, and the Everett Office of Human Services from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon on the first Friday of each month..
