After school: Environmental education with middle school students at Malden’s Beebe and Salemwood Schools. Students learn about the Malden River, plant rain gardens, and educate adults about storm water and conservation.
Summer Youth Employment: Students in Tri-CAP’s Summer youth employment program work with the Environmental Justice Coordinator and a landscape architect to design and develop educational and design projects. Students created an award-winning documentary on the Malden River, designed and built rain gardens, conducted site analyses and made community presentations.
Art Projects:Did you know that the Malden River used to run through Cotylemere Park?
Did you know that rivers and tributaries that used to flow through Malden, Medford, and Everett are now underground? Youth art projects are educating the public about the past, present, and possible future of the Malden River.
Watch the Malden River: Past, Present, and Potential Part I and Part II. This documentary was created by youth working with Tri-CAP in 2010, and it won an Alliance for Community Media award!
Thanks to the City of Malden for supporting the Summer Youth Employment Program that paid for local youth to work with Tri-CAP on this project!
