The snow has disappeared

I am always amazed at how quickly the snow can dissipate. Recent rains and warm temperatures have reduced the snowpack to a fraction of what it was a few days ago. Snow lovers may despair, but for me, spring, or some semblance of it, can’t come soon enough.

Also keep in mind that while the vernal equinox does not occur until March 20, meteorological spring begins on March 1, just a few days away.

It drives him, but wouldn’t it be nice to see some green grass on St. Patrick’s Day?

A lead

Waldo Community Action Partners’ Head Start/Pre-K Early Childhood Program will begin accepting applications for the fall program year in March. If you have a child who will be 4 years old by October 15, please go to waldocap.org and click the “Apply” button to start the application process, or call 338-3827. A person from their office will contact you to schedule an appointment to complete your application.

Historical note

The Republican Journal, February 25, 1904: “An electric lighting plant is being installed in the old flour mill to provide lights for the new Frankfort Supply Co. store and also for public and private use. “

I consider the above notice as an example of how complex things have become today compared to then. If anyone now wanted to create any type of hydroelectric facility, the Atlantic Salmon Commission, Trout Unlimited, EPA, DEP, NOAA and who knows who would have to approve it. That is to say after a long feasibility study. And then the permit would probably be denied.
