Lori Lee VandenBerge, 62, of Près Isle died on Sunday, June 5, 2022, following a brief battle with cancer.

Lori was born on December 16, 1959 in Alpena to Sandy and Mary McDonald. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1978 and later earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Madonna University. Lori worked at District Health Department #4 as a social worker for over 25 years. On May 6, 2000, she married Gillis “Hap” VandenBerge. Lori was a very cunning person, there was nothing she couldn’t do with a needle and thread. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, shopping, travelling, gardening and, to everyone’s delight, was an excellent cook. Lori was a life member of Grace Episcopal Church in Long Rapids.

Lori is survived by her husband, Hap, two children, Jessica (Rob) Nelson and David Matthes (fiancée Amanda), her mother, Mary McDonald, 3 siblings, Cathy (Bill) Hughes, Sherrie (Patrick) O’Brien , and Allen McDonald, five grandchildren, Kylie, James, Teddy, Aiden and Jayden, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Copper. She was predeceased by her father, Sandy McDonald.

The family will receive friends at Grace Episcopal Church on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. with Reverend Karen Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Près Isle Twp. Graveyard. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to McWilliams Funeral Home.
