The Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a tree sale
OAK HARBOR — An easy way to plant quality native trees and shrubs is through the Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), which takes orders for a variety of plants to deliver to the spring.
People can order and pay online or download a tree order form by visiting ottawawcd.com. To have a form sent, call 419-898-1595. The order deadline is March 31, however, stocks are limited.
Evergreen varieties are sold in packs of 10 and include Colorado blue spruce and Norway spruce. This year, the agency is again offering the “fast-growing” Green Rocket Cedar, which will be sold individually. Cedars will grow up to 3 feet per year, are deer resistant, have strong root systems, and no major insect problems. They make an excellent windbreak or privacy screen.
SWCD also offers Shellbark Hickory, Bald Cypress, Black Gum, Tulip Poplar, Sycamore, Bur Oak, Skyrise, Red Oak, White Oak, Sugar Maple and Red Maple.
Back by popular demand, the Wild Tree Pack, Pollinator Tree Pack and a Nut Tree Pack which includes 5 different types of native trees to produce the perfect natural habitat!
Prices range from $10 to $35. For an order form or more information, call the SWCD Ottawa office at 419-898-1595. It is advisable to order early as stocks are limited. The order deadline is March 31. Money raised through the program is used to support district education programs.
