The voters of Troy will decide the city council


TROY – In the Troy Times coverage area, voters will decide on three city council candidate positions on November 2. Below are the profiles of the candidates standing for election. Candidates were asked, in 75 words or less, to state their main objective (s) if they were elected. If a candidate has exceeded the word limit, (…) replaces the rest of the answer. (I) indicates that the candidate is a holder. The answers are printed verbatim.

Troy City Council
Five candidates are running for three four-year terms.

Rebecca Chamberlain-Creanga (I)
Age: 44
Profession: Philanthropy
Municipality of residence: Troy
For how long: 5 1/2 years
Online campaign information:
Education: As a Marshall Fellow I obtained my PhD. from the London School of Economics, an MSc from the London School of Economics and an MSc from University College London. I have a BA from Wheaton College Massachusetts. I was a visiting scholar at Columbia University.
Previously held elective mandates: unanimously appointed to the Troy City Council in February 2020 and elected by residents in August 2020 in a special election for a partial term.
Main Goals: Since joining Council, I have worked hard to listen to neighbors and collaborate with fellow Council members to help lead our city through these unprecedented times. I will continue to prioritize strengthening our local economy and supporting the foundation of our community – our police and firefighters – and the parks, trails and green spaces that make Troy a great place to live. I will protect our low mileage rate and ensure residents have a say in shaping the future.

David Hamilton (I)
Age: 38
Profession: Engineer at Ford Motor Company
Municipality of residence: Troy

Education: I graduated from Troy School District and have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from U of M.
Previously, I held elective positions: I was elected to the Troy municipal council in November 2017 and I was mayor Pro Tem in 2020.
Main Goals: In my first election, I fought for transparency and accountability on the Board and will continue to serve with integrity. I will continue to protect our green spaces, our library and our parks. I will apply my experience on the boards of Troy’s Pension and Retiree Healthcare to further strengthen our finances, while keeping taxes low and municipal services high. I will support our police and fire departments to keep all residents safe. Most importantly, your voice matters and I’m here to listen to you.

Ellen Hodorek (I)
Age: 58
Profession: Retired
Municipality of residence: Troy
For how long: 32 years

Main Goals: My goals are to work together to protect our AAA bond rating, our low mileage rate, our reputation as a “safe city”, our infrastructure, our parks / trails and our recreation. With a unique combination of professional experience in the private and public sectors, I bring an ability to tailor business practices to Troy’s needs. I will continue to bring a politically independent voice to the post, intentionally listen to multiple perspectives, and focus on making common sense decisions to serve you.

Stephanie Roseau
Age: 48
Profession: educator and housewife

Main Goals: I know what it takes to implement plans to maintain and improve our critical infrastructure. As a Certified Construction Industry Finance Professional, I will ensure that our long-term infrastructure plans are built on a solid foundation. I believe that accountability and fiscal responsibility in government is more than possible, it is a duty of those who serve. Our hard-working taxpayers and retirees deserve a city council that has the financial interests of the community at heart. Vote Sosnoski.
